Click as fast as you can when the screen changes color. The test records the time between the visual signal and your click in milliseconds. Run multiple attempts to get a stable average.
Inputs: Your clicks in response to a random color change.
Output: Reaction time in ms, attempt history, and session average.
Limitations: Measures visual click response only. Results are affected by display latency, input device, and browser timing. Does not predict in-game performance, which involves anticipation, visual search, and decision-making.
What the numbers actually mean and why context matters more than raw speed.
A reaction time test measures the delay between seeing a stimulus and clicking. In gaming, this translates to how quickly you can respond to an unexpected event: an enemy peeking, a flash appearing, or a sound cue.
But raw reaction time is only part of the picture. In competitive FPS, most engagements are won by the player who predicted the encounter, not the one who reacted fastest. Crosshair placement, positioning, and pre-aiming reduce the need for raw reaction speed.
That said, at the highest levels where game sense is roughly equal, the 20ms difference between players does matter. And in close-range aim duels, faster reflexes directly translate to winning fights.
Hardware, biology, and environment all play a role.
Display timing: A refresh interval is about 16.7ms at 60Hz, 6.9ms at 144Hz, and 4.2ms at 240Hz. That describes when a frame may be presented, not your complete end-to-end latency or biological reaction time.
Input device: Wired, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz mice can have different timing characteristics. Polling intervals are approximately 8ms at 125Hz, 1ms at 1000Hz, and 0.25ms at 4000Hz, but those figures do not describe total device or system latency.
Context: Sleep, stress, distractions, time of day, and familiarity with the test can shift a session. Keep those conditions reasonably consistent when comparing results.
Practice: Repeated testing can improve consistency and task familiarity. For gameplay, drills that combine a response with aiming, target selection, and prediction are more useful than chasing a browser score.
