Keyboard test

A keyboard test catches problems before they cost you a ranked game or a typing session. On a brand-new board, a key that never registers is worth documenting while the seller’s return period is still open. Without a quick test, the problem may show up mid-match instead.

Press every key once and watch the layout. Dead keys stay dark. Stuck keys stay lit after you release them. Keys that flicker or double-register point to a failing switch or a loose USB connection. Listen for scratchy or rattling stabilizers on the spacebar and shift keys while testing.

For gaming, hold the typical movement cluster (WASD) plus three or four ability keys at the same time. If any key drops off the layout while you are still holding it, the board has ghosting or rollover limits that could affect gameplay. Most modern gaming keyboards handle this fine, but budget boards and older office keyboards often do not.

Ghosting happens when pressing multiple keys causes extra characters to appear. The keyboard misreads the electrical matrix and reports keys you did not touch. Anti-ghosting blocks those false inputs on common key clusters like WASD and the number row.

Key rollover is how many keys the board can read at once. 6KRO handles six simultaneous presses, enough for most FPS and MOBA play. Full NKRO reads every key with no cap. To test rollover on this page, focus the test area and press as many keys as you can at the same time. Every held key should stay lit. Release them one at a time and confirm each dims individually. If a key you are still holding goes dark, the board hit its rollover limit.
