How text styling works outside the game.
Minecraft itself uses a fixed bitmap font. You cannot change fonts inside the game without resource packs or mods. But on platforms like Discord, YouTube, Twitch, and social media, you can paste Unicode characters that visually resemble different fonts.
The Enchanting Table style uses the Standard Galactic Alphabet from Commander Keen, which Mojang adopted for enchanting table text. The characters are random in-game and have no meaning, but the alphabet itself is a real substitution cipher that maps 1:1 to English letters.
Other styles like Bold, Italic, and Monospace use mathematical Unicode ranges (blocks U+1D400 to U+1D7FF). These were originally designed for academic notation, but they work well as decorative text in modern platforms.
