About Minecraft fonts and Unicode

How text styling works outside the game.

Minecraft draws most text in its pixel font, Mojangles. When text contains a character Mojangles does not have, the game falls back to GNU Unifont. That is why pasted fancy letters show up in a slightly different pixel style in-game. Bedrock Edition cannot show any character above U+FFFF, which rules out the Bold, Italic, Monospace, Double-Struck, Squared, and Black Bubble styles there.

The Enchanting Table style uses the Standard Galactic Alphabet from Commander Keen, which Mojang adopted for enchanting table text. The characters are random in-game and have no meaning, but the alphabet itself is a real substitution cipher that maps 1:1 to English letters. To decode runes back to English, use the Enchanting Table Translator.

Bold, Italic, Monospace, and Double-Struck use the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block (U+1D400 to U+1D7FF), which was built for math notation. Discord, YouTube, and most phones display them. Font support was checked against the Minecraft Wiki on September 24, 2026.

This tool maps regular letters to Unicode characters that look like different fonts. Because they are actual Unicode symbols (not custom fonts), the converted text can be pasted into Discord, YouTube, social media, and anywhere else that supports Unicode.
The Standard Galactic Alphabet (SGA) appears on enchanting tables in Minecraft. Each letter maps to a symbol. The text shown on enchanting tables is random and does not describe the enchantment. This generator converts your text to SGA characters so you can use them for decoration in messages, server names, or bios.
Small Caps, Circled, Fullwidth, and Upside Down use basic Unicode characters that Java and Bedrock Edition can both draw. Bold, Italic, Monospace, Double-Struck, Squared, and Black Bubble work in Java Edition, which falls back to the GNU Unifont font, but Bedrock cannot show characters above U+FFFF and draws boxes. Strikethrough and Underline do not work in either edition because Minecraft does not support combining characters. Each style on this page shows its label.

Commands can use it with the font field of a text component, for example /tellraw @p {"text":"hello","font":"minecraft:alt"}. The copied Enchanting Table style from this page also works in Java chat, but on Bedrock the letter o shows as a box.
