GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix: What Aired and What's Next

The GTA 6 Extended Look premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026 at 3:00 PM Eastern time and hit Rockstar's YouTube channel at 9:00 PM ET. It runs 26 minutes, uses in-game footage captured on PS5, and is free to watch on YouTube now. GTA 6 itself launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What Rockstar showed

Rockstar announced the Extended Look on August 6, 2026 through its newswire and Netflix. The wording was specific: "An Extended Look," not a trailer, not a documentary.

The video delivered gameplay. Per Engadget's breakdown, it showed Jason and Lucia in robberies, heists, and escapes, plus shooting, a bullet-time ability, melee combat, vehicle theft, driving, and exploration across Leonida, Rockstar's version of Florida. All footage was captured on a standard PS5, and it held roughly 30 fps for most of the runtime.

It did not cover GTA Online or a PC version.

Pre-orders were already open before the premiere. They started June 25, 2026 on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Rockstar Store, and at retailers. The Standard Edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99. Physical copies ship as a box with a download code inside rather than a disc. Pre-orders and purchases before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack, and pre-loading opens November 12.

The Netflix angle explained

The game is not coming to Netflix. This was a video premiere, similar to a movie trailer premiering before a specific film in theaters. Netflix got a 6-hour exclusivity window, and after that the video went to YouTube for free.

Netflix reported more than 325 million paid memberships in its January 2026 earnings. That's a built-in audience of people who aren't necessarily following gaming news channels. For Rockstar, it puts GTA 6 in front of a mainstream audience that wouldn't otherwise see it until release week. For Netflix, it's a reason for gamers to open the app.

There's also the leak problem. GTA 6's first trailer leaked online in December 2023, and Rockstar released it ahead of schedule in response. Premiering on Netflix first gave Rockstar a controlled window before the video reached YouTube.

Rockstar's history with long-form reveals

Red Dead Redemption (2010): Rockstar produced a roughly 30-minute short film, The Man from Blackwater, made from in-engine footage. It aired on Fox on May 29, 2010, shortly after the game's launch. The GTA 6 Extended Look follows the same pattern: premium platform, exclusive window, longer-form content.

GTA 5 (2013): Rockstar rolled out its pre-release features through a series of website updates covering categories like cars, the economy, outdoor activities, and vehicle customization.

Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018): Separate showcase releases covering wildlife, characters, weapons, and world design, spaced out over months.

The GTA 6 Extended Look combined that breadth into a single 26-minute video.

Gamescom timing

Gamescom 2026 opened to the public in Cologne on August 26 and ran through August 30, with Opening Night Live on August 25. The Extended Look premiered August 27, in the middle of the show week, when most gaming press and creators were already covering news full time. Rockstar got that attention without a booth.

PC readiness: what we know so far

Rockstar has not confirmed PC specifications or a PC release date. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has only said Rockstar "will make more announcements in due time." The launch versions are PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S.

Based on the open-world scale visible in the trailers and the Extended Look, here's a reasonable expectation:
